The kick-off meeting of the EMANICS project took place in Munich, hosted by the University of the Federal Armed Forces. While the service on the campus was excellent, it was surprising how difficult it was for the hotel to provide warm water and for Munich to deal with the snow situation. I expected Munich to be better prepared for weather like this.
The 19th meeting of the Network Management Research Group (NMRG) took place at the KTH in Stockholm, Sweden. It focussed on promise theory and new approaches to distributed management. The event was funded by the European Network for the Management of Internet Technologies and Complex Services (EMANICS).
The European Commission is funding a European Network for the Management of Internet Technologies and Complex Services (EMANICS) under contract 026854 in the Information Society Technologies (IST) program. I am involved as an project member, as a workpackage leader and as an activitiy leader.
The DSOM 2005 workshop, which I have co-chaired together with Joan Serrat, has been a great success. The proceedings are available in Springer’s LNCS series as volume number LNCS 3775.
IUB has become a member of the PlanetLab Consortium. Work has started to setup the machines that will become part of the PlanetLab infrastructure.
I accepted to co-chair the ISMS working group of the IETF.
The 18th meeting of the Network Management Research Group (NMRG) took place at INRIA in Nancy, France, during the weekend before the IETF meeting in Paris. It focused on management of VoIP networks and services.
A European Network of Excellence (NoE) proposal called MAGIX, which integrates European researchers working on network and service management, has been accepted by the EU. The funding negotiations will start in September.
The SNMP URI scheme was finally published as RFC 4088. This is a standards-track document (currently Proposed Standard level). The scli package provides an implementation of RFC 4088.
I participated as a panelist in the Distinguished Experts Panel at IM 2005, which took place in Nice, France. This panel was actually quite some fun.
